Sweden – Suspicious betting patterns stops play in Sweden’s Division 2

Svenska Spel Sport & Casino decided to permanently stop all games in Division 2 Södra Svealand.

The move follows a request from the Swedish Football Association (SvFF), amid a number of suspicious betting patterns being identified relating to the division.

Svenska Spel said: “We see no other solution than stopping all betting.”

Håkan Sjöstrand, Secretary General of SvFF, said: “The situation that has arisen is so serious that we are unfortunately forced to take action to suspend the betting markets to safeguard the integrity of the league and prevent manipulation for the rest of the season.”

Dan Korhonen, Head of sports betting and gaming security at Svenska Spel, said: “Svenska Spel Sports & Casino.Svenska Spel works for all games that take place at the sport’s conditions and therefore takes full account of it in the supply of gambling and in efforts to secure integrity and to combat possible manipulation.”

“Svenska Spel works daily to ensure that the selections we offer our clients is free from tampering. In dialogue with the Football Association, it has expressed its concerns about the Division 2 Södra Svealand and when the number of suspect matches are so many that the integrity of the whole series can be questioned, we see no other solution is to stop all the games,” he added. “Svenska Spel works according to a principle of caution to ensure the highest level of gaming security and privacy offered selections, and will never give up the fight against match fixing.
